Acculturation
"Acculturation is the phenomenon that groups of people from different cultures who meet in a country take over cultural features from each other but remain distinct." (Kottak, 2007).
Foreign students are being prepared online for their studies at a Dutch higher education institution.
Three ways of acculturation in this project:
• content-wise (deficiencies, adaptation, prior knowledge, etc.)
• getting to know the local academic culture (lectures, working style, etc.)
• starting a social network (of Dutch and other foreign students)
On this website you find information about the Acculturation project which took place during the period 2007 – 2010.
The information is written in the present tense, because it was current at that time.
This site is meant for teachers, managers and other participants in the process of international education.
